About

human evolution

Humanity is a fascinating species and, to the extent of our knowledge, the only one of its kind in the universe. From our humble beginnings as bipedal primitives, we have evolved to dominate most of the Earth’s surface. When you think about all the things humans have mastered and created – society, tools, technology, religion, science, philosophy, art, culture – it almost seems unreal that what started as a tiny mammal shivering in the shadows of giants could come so far, and in such relatively short timespan.

If survival of the fittest means the ability to successfully adapt to our environment and shape it according to our needs, we’re not the only ones. But we are one of the best at what we do, and our rapid progress speaks to that fact.

It hasn’t been a smooth journey, and we’re still struggling with coming to terms with ourselves in a lot of areas. Being complex creatures is our best advantage, but also our biggest flaw. Growth always involves a certain amount of pain, and as modern humans, we find ourselves at a crossroad where we generally think of ourselves as evolved beyond nature, while at the same time being closely integrated with the very same. There’s so much potential in us, but only if we can harness that power and put it to good use for the benefit of all can we truly fulfill our destiny, whatever that may be.

the future of humanity

Aero2012 intends to highlight all the intricacies and idiosyncrasies that make us who we are. Discover all the pros and cons of humanity in a diverse palette of ideas, breakthroughs and mistakes. Wonder at the variety of human achievement, shutter at our indulgence in primal instincts, and marvel at the amount of sheer ingenuity that our species possesses.

We are always on the verge of another horizon, it seems, and nobody knows for sure where we’ll ultimately find ourselves. Like a great mind once stated: The journey is the most important part, although too often neglected as a mere means to an end.
